Confession. I use a brow pencil that I love and I’m happy with and it only cost me 93 cents! This is the Wet n Wild brow and eye liner in dark brown that I have been using for more than a year now. I have tried others but they don’t quite give me the effect that this cheapie pencil gives me. But when I heard that BH Cosmetics has a new brow pencil and it was on sale for $4, I had to try it. This BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil Brunette review is my personal experience with this brow pencil from them.
I prefer pencils that lean more towards dark brown (and sometimes with some reddish undertones) rather than black. Some of the other brow pencils that I have tried and did not like leaned more towards black which just looks so harsh on me.
The BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil comes in the shades Ebony, Brunette, Medium, Auburn and Blonde so clearly my choice was between ebony and brunette and since ebony would probably be too harsh, I chose brunette.
This seems to be BH Cosmetics answer to the very popular Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (which I have never tried) which of course costs so much more than the one from BH Cosmetics. The design of the pencil looks just like the Brow Wiz with a retractable pencil on one end and a spooley on the other end. The brow pencil tip also looks exactly the same.
This brow pencil in brunette leans towards black which I have never liked in brow pencils but after applying it and leaving it on, the more I would examine it, the more I got used to the color and the color actually seemed more flattering to my dark skin or should I say more “realistic.” It is not black, but “hints” towards it if that makes any sense.
My wet n wild brow pencil is also creamier and I can literally draw my brows on with one swipe but this is not the case with the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil. The latter does not spread easily so you can’t just draw a line with one stroke. Using this pencil cannot be a rush brow job. Because it is not as creamy, it requires several small strokes in order to fill in any gaps in the brows and from the pic of my nonexistent brows, this can take some time.
- I was amazed how matte my brows looked after using this pencil which is very good since I no longer have to worry about shiny brows because I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and with this brow pencil, it takes several hours before my brows start looking shiny compared to when I use my wet n wild brow pencil.
- It stays put so much better than my wet n wild pencil which is good for me since I hate putting brow gel on my penciled brows to lock them in.
- Brunette looks more realistic against my skin tone than my dark brown wet n wild pencil.
- I don’t like taking too much time on my brows and since this brow pencil requires many small strokes to get the look I want, it takes me a little longer to use than my wet n wild pencil.
Overall, this is a great pencil and although the price keeps fluctuating on the BH Cosmetics site (it is now $5.95 although the retail value is $7.95) it is still inexpensive compared to the Anastasia brow products.
I definitely recommend this pencil. I probably will not put away my wet n wild brow pencils especially when I am in a rush but this BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil in Brunette is a great alternative.
