I have no idea where the Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub and Queen Helene Pomegranate & Raspberry Scrub have been hiding but I just recently discovered them. I thought these were new when I stumbled upon them in Sally’s until I saw the “new look” tab which means that these have been around for a long time.
Why they are not as talked about as the St Ives Apricot Scrub, I can’t understand because if they were, I probably would have discovered how amazing they were a long time ago.
I had been looking for a daily scrub and because I intended to use it daily, I didn’t want it to be too expensive. As we get older, the skin becomes sluggish about exfoliating the top layer of skin so it needs a lot of help. Which is why I am now doing daily exfoliation and not once or twice a week. Frequent exfoliation transforms the skin and I need to transform my skin especially because of my large pores and the dark marks from acne.
While St Ives Apricot scrub is probably the most well-known scrub that is also inexpensive, I just was not comfortable using this on a daily basis because to me, the scrubbing particles in this are just too large.
So I was either using scrubs that were too harsh or not harsh enough. And then I discovered Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub. I loved it so much from the first use that I went back to Sally’s to get a back up and then I discovered that there was another scrub – Queen Helene Pomegranate & Raspberry Scrub – so I decided to get this instead to compare and I loved it too!
Now I have tried Queen Helene products before such as the Mint Julep Masque and the Mud Pack Masque as well as other hair care products and they were nothing to write home about until I discovered these scrubs.
The scrubs have just the right size of exfoliating particles and feel more like those used in microdermabarasion but without the high price of microdermabrasion.
This is targeted to oily and acne prone skin which is perfect for my skin which is combination and acne prone. This has a fresh minty fragrance which I love and per the packaging;
This deep cleaning facial scrub deeply cleans and helps unclog pores and draw out impurities, while hydrating glycerin helps maintain skin moisture balance. After use, skin is clean with a fresher looking complexion.
I can definitely say that this scrub does what it says and so much more!
This is targeted to normal and combination skin and has more of a fruity fragrance. There is a bit of skin tingling with this scrub. Per the packaging;
This softening facial scrub combines raspberry seeds to help unclog pores and remove dead skin cell build up, while antioxidant pomegranate helps fight skin-dulling free radicals. After use, skin is refined with an even toned radiance.
Again, this scrub does what it claims and so much more.
How I scrub my face
Another thing about these scrubs not being too harsh is that I rarely use my fingers with them. I don’t know why but I just don’t like using my fingers when I am scrubbing my face. When I used the St Ives scrub, I had to use my fingers because this is a harsh scrub in my opinion. But because these are gentle but effective scrubs, I use them with this gentle rubber “scrubber” that was attached to the bottle of the L’oreal Go 360 Clean Deep Cleansing Exfoliating Scrub.
The L’oreal scrub did not really feel like a scrub so I stopped using it but love the “scrubber” it came with which is perfect and gentle enough to use with my Queen Helene scrubs.
I scrub in a circular motion on my face, neck and shoulders for about 2 minutes and then rinse. I scrub before I cleanse my face or after I cleanse my face. Since it doesn’t leave a film behind I can comfortably use it after I cleanse the times that I decide not to scrub before I cleanse.
What I have noticed from using these scrubs;
- Skin is left very soft and clean
- My large pores are much smaller
- The texture of my skin is much nicer
- Dark marks are slowly fading
I love these scrubs and love the way my skin looks and will continue to use them. I am just mad that it took me this long to discover them. But it seems that I can only find these on the ground at Sally’s Beauty Supply. These were the only two scrubs carried by my local Sally’s but there are others including an apricot scrub that I also want to try. The grocery stores or drugstores I frequent don’t seem to carry the scrubs though they do carry the facial masks.
At less than $5, these are amazing scrubs that are also inexpensive. So if you haven’t tried Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub or the Queen Helene Pomegranate & Raspberry Scrub, what are you waiting for? If you are looking for gentle scrubs that still exfoliate the skin very well, these are perfect. I love them both equally BUT if I had to choose, I would probably go with the mint julep.
