One of my favorite skin care brands at the drugstore is CeraVe and since it is developed by dermatologists it should be great for the skin right? I recently got this cleanser which is targeted towards those with normal to dry skin. I have oily/combination skin but still wanted to try this cleanser so here’s my CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser review.
I have mentioned before how much I love using my SheaMoisture African Black Soap bar for cleansing my skin but it is very drying and once I got my Foreo Luna mini, using it with the black soap was just too drying for my skin so I set about finding a moisturizing (creamy) cleanser. I did find one which I reviewed here but while I was using that one, I happened to get a free deluxe sample of this CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.
Once I run out of this CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser deluxe sample that I received, I decided to go ahead and get the full-size (12 fl. oz) because I ended up liking it so much.
Although most if not all creamy cleansers are targeted towards those with dry skin, I have learned to love them over the years for my oily/combination skin especially when I determined not to fight my oily skin so much (cleanse without drying out my skin).
Make CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser a vital part of your daily skin care regimen. Ideal for normal to dry skin types. Use daily morning and night to gently remove dirt, oil and makeup without disrupting the skin’s natural protective bacteria. Never drying, ceramides help moisturize, restore and maintain the skin’s natural protective function. Its unique patented MVE formulation releases ceramides and other essential ingredients throughout the day, so they penetrate deep to hydrate and nourish. While hyaluronic acid (a humectant) attracts moisture to the top layer of the skin, ensuring skin remains hydrated after washing.
Ideal for use on the face and body
Ceramides help repair the skin barrier
Hyaluronic acid attracts needed moisture
Emollients moisturize and soften dry skin
As you can see, the touted ingredients (ceramides and hyluronic acid) are close to the top of the ingredient list which is good to see as this means that there is a significant amount of these ingredients in the products in order to make a difference to the skin per the claims. Many products tout an ingredient but once you check the ingredient list, it is usually at the bottom or close to the bottom of the ingredient list.
This creamy cleanser is white in color and has a very faint scent to it which is not unpleasant. Although I mainly use this once a day (evening) with my Foreo Luna mini, I have used it with just my hands in the morning and it worked just fine although I usually use my black soap to cleanse in the morning. When removing makeup with this cleanser I use it with just my hands first before following with my Foreo.
This is a creamy cleanser so do not expect it to lather as with most soaps. It feels like you are cleansing your face with a lotion. Some people may not like this but since I am used to cream cleansers, this was not an issue for me.
- Cleanses the face very well.
- Removes all makeup very well.
- Leaves skin soft and smooth and not dry.
- My skin just feels so calm after using this cleanser.
- Did not cause any breakouts or other skin issues or irritations.
- Great ingredient list.
- I like that it comes with a twist pump to open and close.
- One of the few cons I can think of is the price which some people may think is too expensive (about $12.99) for a drugstore product. I do wish it were less than $10 but I am happy with this CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser so I will continue buying.
- Another possible con for some people is that this contains parabens. Hopefully this will be reformulated in the future and not include parabens.
I love this CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. It cleanses the face very well including removing makeup without leaving the skin dry and tight. It is also the perfect cleanser to use in combination with my Foreo Luna mini because it is a moisturizing cleanser. I highly recommend this cleanser.
