DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Review

dhc deep cleansing oil reviewDHC is a brand from Japan that uses olive oil as a main ingredient in many of their products. I have tried a few of their products (primer, eye cream, night cream, etc) but none of them compared to their cleansing oil. This cleansing oil is one of my holy grail skin care products which is one of the reasons that I decided to do this DHC Deep Cleansing Oil review.

Oil cleansing

I am a great proponent of the oil cleansing method especially if you have oily, blemish prone skin which is my skin type. I also think that it is the best method to remove makeup. No cleansing is needed afterward although some people follow the double cleansing method with the first step being the oil cleansing method to remove makeup and then stepping into the shower and cleansing the face with another cleanser. This just seems redundant to me since oil cleansing totally cleanses the face.

I may splash my face with warm water when I step in the shower to actually shower but I never follow-up with another cleansing of my face since my face is clean after oil cleansing but I guess whatever works for you.

The one thing about making your own oil cleanser at home is that it is too much work for me.  The traditional oil cleansing method requires you to steam your face a few times with a wash cloth to open up the pores, after massaging the oil into your skin and pores for about two to five minutes.

Then the next step is wiping off all the oil from your face and then you have to clean the wash cloths used. You need to be prepared to go through a lot of wash cloths and wash all these before you use them. Doing this every day can get tiring. Most people especially after a long day at work want the cleansing process to be as simple as possible or are just lazy like me!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Review

There are now a few oil cleansing products on the market that seem to be taking a page out of traditional oil cleansing but none of them compare to the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. I tried the Garnier cleansing oil as well as another one from the drugstore that I can’t remember but hated both of them. Maybe I will find a drugstore product that competes with DHC but for now, it has no competition.

If you want to cleanse your face with oil without the extra steps of the traditional oil cleansing method, this cleansing oil is perfect.

Claims;

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil makeup remover completely dissolves all traces of dirt and cosmetics—even waterproof mascara and eyeliner—while nourishing your complexion with antioxidant-rich olive oil. Using dry hands, massage it onto your dry face, and it immediately goes to work. Add water and it transforms to a milky, vitamin-rich emulsion that rinses clean, leaving your skin feeling soft and nurtured; never dry or greasy. One try and you’ll understand why it’s the ultimate cleanser.

Ingredients;

olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, pentylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, tocopherol, stearyl glycyrrhetinate, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil

This is a favorite especially when I have makeup to remove. It completely dissolves ALL makeup. I was so shocked that it removed my waterproof mascara in seconds and very easily. So unlike my other makeup removal products that require me to rub my eyelashes over and over again in order to remove my waterproof mascara and they still don’t remove all of it. This was not an issue with this DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

You also don’t really need a lot of product either for your entire face. Shown below is how much I used to remove all my makeup including waterproof mascara and nothing was left on my skin after rinsing off my face.

Since this is an oil, it needs to be massaged with dry hands onto your dry face for a minute a two and then jump into the shower. It smells a little like olive oil which makes sense this olive oil is the main ingredient.

What is amazing about this cleansing oil which none of the drugstore oil cleansers could do is that when combined with water, this DHC Deep Cleansing Oil dissolves like magic and changes from an oil which allows you to simply rinse your face off and pat dry.

This is because it contains a unique water-soluble formula that rinses thoroughly. No need for wash cloths. It deeply penetrates the skin to eliminate dirt and grime without drying out your face. There is no oily residue.

Pros

  • Cleanses amazingly well.
  • Easily removes all traces off makeup even waterproof mascara in seconds!
  • Does not leave an oily residue.
  • Completely rinses off.
  • Leaves the face clean and soft.
  • Don’t need a lot of product to do the job.
  • Skin did not breakout although olive oil which is the main ingredient in this oil cleanser is not one of my favorite oils to use when I make my oil cleanser at home.

Cons

  • The only con I can think of is that this oil cleanser is pricey ($28 for 6.7 fl. oz) but since you do not need to use a lot of product, it can easily last a few months. There are smaller sizes available that are cheaper (a small and mini) but when you compare how much you are spending per ounce, it is more cost-effective to buy the full size.

Overall

As I have mentioned already, this DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is a holy grail product. I have found nothing that cleanses as well or removes makeup as well as this oil cleanser so I highly recommend it. While it is pricey, it is well worth the investment.
