I have sensitive skin so the Simple brand seems perfect for my skin and although I’ve tried a few products from Simple, nothing has wowed me. Until I tried this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil. I have tried a few cleansing oils from the drugstore and have not been impressed with the ones I tried especially since I was comparing them to my favorite cleansing oil which is the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.
While the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is still tops, this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil is a close second which was such a surprise for me considering this is drugstore. Simple hit it out the park with this cleansing oil. My only gripe is that I wish there was a bit more for the price (4.2 fl. oz for $9.99 at Target. It’s a bit more expensive at ULTA at $12.99.)
This was such an impulse buying decision but I’m so glad that I did.
Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil Review
Simple’s new hydrating cleansing oil with pure grape seed oil completely removes all make-up and dissolving impurities to deeply cleanse pores while instantly hydrating your skin. Enriched with Vitamin A & E it nourishes your skin for a soft and smooth finish. Activated with water it won’t leave your skin feeling dry or greasy just completely clean and fresh.
First of all, I love when a product touts an ingredients and when you look at the ingredient list, it is the first ingredient on the list. I love grapeseed oil and have used it before in my homemade cleansing oil recipes but mainly as an addition to a thicker oil such as castor oil because it is such a light oil. It has never been the star like it is in this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil.
Per the ingredient list, this cleansing oil also contains vitamin E and vitamin A which are also great for the skin. The rest of the very short ingredient list is made up of mild cleansers. I don’t see any skin drying sulfates which is great.
There are so many things I love about this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil. The ingredient list is one which I’ve already discussed. I also love that this cleansing oil has a barely noticeable smell which is not always the case with these cleansing oils including my favorite DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. Even when they do not contain any fragrance, the natural smell of the oils themselves can be a bit off-putting as I’ve discovered as a lover of oils.
But most importantly, this cleansing oil does a fantastic job of cleansing the skin. Though I use various products and tools to remove my makeup, I’ve always felt that using oils is the best way to not only cleanse the skin but also remove makeup.
Though I can use oils to cleanse my face whether or not I wear makeup, I usually prefer to use oils to cleanse my skin when I wear makeup. This Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil completely removed all my makeup including my eye makeup while feeling very gentle on the skin. The cotton ball I swiped my face with after was completely clean even around my eye area.
I applied this to dry skin and gently massaged my face to loosen makeup and dirt and then rinsed off in the shower. While the instructions stated to apply two or three drops, I don’t know what their definition of a drop is because I did need a lot more than two or three drops but I didn’t need as much as I’ve needed with other drugstore oil cleansers. The amount I needed for my entire face was in line with how much of the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil I normally use.
This cleansing oil just felt so light and gentle on my skin. You know when you have a sense that a product is just great for your skin? That’s the sense I had when I used this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil.
The other thing with other drugstore cleansers is that when I rinsed off in the shower, I had a yucky greasy feel which meant that I had to double cleanse to remove this layer of grease. I don’t usually double cleanse when I oil cleanse although many people normally do, because it feels redundant to me. This cleansing oil does not leave a greasy film so no double cleansing necessary for me. What it leaves behind is a moisturized feeling to the skin. The skin is not left dry.
In addition to having sensitive skin, I also have acne prone skin and this cleansing oil did not seem to cause any breakouts.
While there are so many things to love about this Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil, I don’t like as I mentioned previously that you only get 4.2 fl. oz. I bought this at my local grocery store for $9.99 which I think is too much for the quantity since I can get a 16 oz bottle of 100% organic grapeseed oil for much less than $10. I definitely think that this cleansing oil is overpriced so I’m not sure whether I will repurchase.
This Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil is fantastic for cleansing the face and removing makeup completely while leaving the face feeling moisturized which is why I highly recommend it. It’s also very gentle on the skin. The only thing I have issues with is the price for the quantity you get.
Since the issue I have with homemade cleansing oil recipes is that I can’t rinse the oil off in the shower as I can with this cleansing oil, I may repurchase despite the price. Rinsing off in the shower just makes oil cleansing so much easier as opposed to using face cloths (which have to be constantly washed) when I use a homemade cleansing oil recipe.
