This Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer is such a simple product but it has been such a lifesaver for me and this is because a couple of years ago (I don’t know why) I started getting tiny rashes/bumps on my lips which I have never had. I would bite into them and off course it would lead to small bruises on my lips. They were so annoying that I couldn’t help biting into them and their frequency started getting worse over time.
Certain lipsticks or lip balms would either lead to a lot of rashes or only a few or none. The worst was when I used the lip balm from The Body Shop (hemp line) which I thought would be the best lip balm based on the reviews and the company but after using this one time and having such a bad reaction, I threw it in the trash.
I don’t know what the ingredient is that seems to be causing these rashes and the process of elimination would probably be too expensive and time consuming and lately, I started getting them even when I went a few days without wearing lipstick or lip balm.
Now I have never been a huge lip balm wearer anyway and I have tried several including those on trend (EOS looking at you!) and they just did not moisturize my lips like I wanted and did not help with the rashes either so I ended up forgetting about them after using them a few times.
I even turned to my trusty organic, cold pressed, unrefined, extra virgin oils like coconut oil which has been a cure-all for many skin issues I have had while being a great skin moisturizer also. Coconut oil did not seem to work against these rashes. I also tried castor oil, apricot kernel oil, rose hip oil, emu oil, etc, but none seemed to stop these rashes from appearing. I was getting frustrated and just thought I would have to live with these allergies.
And then I found the Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 15 (dermatologist recommended). It also states that it is the Norwegian Formula and I don’t know if there are any other formulas floating around.
I only decided to try this because I started to wear a lot of liquid lipsticks which are very mattifying and drying once they dry and I was considering adding a lip balm to my lips before applying the liquid lipstick and I didn’t like any of my lip balms including another by Neutrogena, EOS, Burt’s Bees, an old one from Murad, etc. They just didn’t moisturize my lips like I wanted.
I read a couple of reviews and this was one that had some good reviews so on a recent online shopping excursion at Ulta, I decided to add this to my order. I thought I would be able to get this Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer locally so it was just a last minute purchase decision at the website and I ended up being so glad that I did because I looked in local drugstores and grocery stores and apparently this is not carried on the ground which is annoying!
From the first time I tried this lip moisturizer, my lips were so moisturized and they stayed moisturized for long periods so I knew I had a hit on my hands. So I started applying it before my lipsticks and anytime really even before bed and the next morning, my lips were still moisturized.
Well, after a few days I started noticing something strange. My rashes started healing and after a week or two they were all gone. So this Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer has moved from being a favorite to being a holy grail item. I was shocked. I don’t know what is inside this lip moisturizer that is dealing with the allergies but whatever it is, I am so grateful. I have missed having smooth bump free lips for so long.
And as an added bonus which I didn’t notice until I had been using this for about a month (silly me) is that it has SPF 15 in it which is from the two chemical sunscreens shown above.
It has no color, no fragrance, is tasteless and is oh so moisturizing. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t have any of these extras which is why I no longer develop any rashes as long as I use this lip balm. Maybe yes, maybe no…
And since I’m a lazy lip balm wearer, I stopped wearing it before using some of my lipsticks since I knew that whether I used this lip balm before, during or after lipstick application, my lips would remain rash free. Also, after my lips completely cleared of the rashes, I got lazy and stopped using it. Within a week, a couple of the rashes returned and I grabbed this lip balm so fast! Within a couple of days they were gone.
So whether I use this Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer frequently or forget about it for a spell, I know it is my only solution if my lips start acting up so I will always have this around even though it is annoying that I can’t go to a store and buy it.
I don’t know how many ways to say that I love this moisturizer so I hope that this Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer review has been helpful to you especially if you deal with allergies on your lips or have sensitive lips. And it also moisturizes very well.
