Micellar water is the latest “it” product in the beauty world and though I am usually hesitant to jump onto bandwagons, this sounded like something that is right up my alley as I am trying to follow a beauty regimen that treats my skin very gently which this claims to do. So if you are wondering “What is micellar water used for?” keep reading.
What is micellar water?
This is actually a French import which was actually created as a response to the very harsh water in France. They wanted something that would treat the skin gently because whatever skin you have, treating it gently is the best way. I have sensitive, acne prone combination skin and the good thing about micellar water is that it works on ALL skin types.
Micellar water is a soap free cleanser that does not require rinsing afterwards. It contains small particles that are known as “micelles” which can get a hold of oils, dirt, makeup, impurities, etc, and the water base allows these to be dissolved and wiped away.
This is an all-in-one product that effectively cleanses the face and tones it while promoting maximum hydration and all without any harsh ingredients that strip and irritate the skin like many cleansers and toners. And as an added bonus, no rinsing is required.
What a way to simplify your beauty regimen especially if you are lazy like me.
How to use micellar water
Simply pour it onto a cotton pad and wipe your face like you would when using a toner. Use as much or as little as you need to get the job done and then continue with your normal skincare routine i.e. apply your favorite moisturizer afterwards.
If you do wear heavy makeup, you may or may not need to do a bit more cleansing which may include using a makeup wipe and then following with micellar water to remove any remaining residue.
- Works effectively on all skin types.
- Removes makeup, dirt, oil, etc, quite effectively.
- Is not harsh on the skin.
- Leaves the skin well hydrated with a soft dewy finish.
- If you have oily, blemish prone skin, micellar water will not leave your skin stripped or irritated which helps prevent over activity from your oil glands and encourage the development of blemishes.
- An all-in-one solution which is especially great for travel since you will not need to carry too many products with you on the road.

While there are many fancy and expensive brands of micellar water, thankfully some drugstore brands have made micellar water accessible to those of us on a budget.
My favorite is Simple Cleansing Micellar Water ($6.99) which is very affordable and contains triple-purified water, which helps to remove various skin irritating contaminants, and also contains vitamin C and pro-vitamin B3 which help to soothe and soften skin.
Simple also has Micellar Make-up Remover Wipes.
Available at target for $6.99.
So there you have it if you are wondering “what is micellar water used for?” This is an amazing multi-tasking product that gets the job done without irritating your skin.
